A correlation between the ice field images characterized by different
spatial resolution has been established, thus allowing to extrapolate
the ice-cake size distribution function to a minimum size limit making
up a fraction of a pixel. The extrapolation coefficient is found to d
epend on the fractal dimensionality of a self-similar structure and th
e ratio of pixel sizes. It is shown that the fractal features of ice f
ields provide more definite mathematical description of ice compactnes
s and disintegration characteristics and allow for their correct inter
pretation.
