As arthroscopic techniques and equipment improved over time, arthrosco
pic meniscus repair techniques were developed. Reports in the literatu
re suggest that single longitudinal tears in the peripheral one third
of the meniscus can be repaired arthroscopically with predictable resu
lts. Complex tear patterns, such as double longitudinal, radial, or fl
ap tears, once were thought to be unsuitable for repair. This article
presents the authors' guidelines and technical considerations to be fo
llowed when attempting arthroscopic repair of complex meniscus tears.
