Oligosaccharides play many important roles in biological processes and
in pathology. Combinatorial library technologies for the rapid identi
fication of potential oligosaccharide and glycoconjugate drugs could p
rovide valuable tools for drug discovery, although rapid and efficient
access to library constituents would be required. Developments in the
solid-phase synthesis of oligosaccharides and glycoconjugates will pr
ovide the tools for medicinal chemists to generate combinatorial libra
ries of these complex systems in the future.
