Abstract
Telomeres contains short tandem repeats (TTAGGG)n that are usually sev eral kilobases in size. DNA sequences located next to the repeats are called telomere-associated or subtelomeric sequences. In this report w e describe isolation and characterization of a new cDNA sequence isola ted with a telomere specific, chromosome 17 genomic clone. No open rea ding frame of notable length could be detected. However comparison wit h sequences in the EMBL/Genbank revealed a 897 bp of close to perfect match, in the 3' end with the centromeric end of a genomic clone conta ining subtelomeric repeat sequences. The potential function of the SUB T1 transcript remains to be elucidated.
