The yield and size distribution of single-wall carbon nanotubes were i
nvestigated on samples prepared by are discharge between graphite elec
trodes in a Iie atmosphere with the positive electrode filled with mix
tures of 2 metallic elements. Fe and Ni. The yield exhibits irs maximu
m if the ratio of Fe to Ni is 1, and. concurrently, the distribution o
f the tube diameter is narrowest. The average diameter is found ro bz
independent of the ratio and is about nm.
