The interaction of an impactor and a clamped, anisotropic plate at low
velocities is studied. A series expansion for the plate deflection is
assumed and the equations of motion are derived from the Lagrangian o
f the system. The resulting system of equations is solved using Newmar
k's beta-method. Large plate deflections are taken into account by app
lying von Karman's equations for the strain components. Contact forces
between impactor and plate and the center deflection of tile plate ar
e calculated for various isotropic and orthotropic plates and are comp
ared to literature values. Finally the model was used to check the for
ce-time curve of an impacted CFRP-facesheet that was recorded in the c
ourse of the material qualification of a satellite-carrier structure.
