Several ways of synthesis of N-N-P-N-N containing macrocycles are desc
ribed. These methods allowed the isolation of more than 120 macrocycle
s of different sizes, incorporating phosphorus atoms in several coordi
nences (tri, tetra, penta coordination), several heteroatoms (silicon,
zirconium, titanium) and different types of functions (C=N, P-CI, P-N
-3). The complexation ability of these macrocycles as well as their ve
rsatile reactivity,leading to more complex systems such as multimacroc
ycles and phosphorus cryptands are also described.
