Abstract
The Krell-Ericson transformation provides a local potential that is ex actly equivalent to the nonlocal Kisslinger-type potential. The associ ated scattering wave functions are related by a Perey factor. We exami ne the properties of examples of these local potentials, based upon lo w-order multiple scattering theory, at energies ranging from 20 to 291 MeV. The radial shapes of the potentials may display considerable str ucture in the nuclear surface. The general characteristics of the loca l real potentials reproduce the live features identified by Friedman f rom his model-independent analysis of pion scattering data The Perey f actors show a simple, mostly monotonic, behavior.
