Twenty-none Sardinian honeys of different botanical origin (Orange, Ci
trus spp., Asphodel, Cardus spp, Strawberry-tree, Eucalyptus, Multiflo
wers, Chestnut-tree, Trifolium spp., Edisarum spp., and Mediterranean
native flora) currently available on the market, were analyzed in orde
r to determine the caffeine content. The result have shown an average
concentration of caffeine of 1.79 and 4.93 mg/kg in Citrus and Orange
honeys respectively. On the contrary, the component was not found in t
he other honeys. According to previous results obtained by other Autho
rs, these data confirm the peculiarity of Orange and Citrus honeys; th
erefore their botanical origin can be identified using the caffeine pr
esence and concentration.
