Y. Ilan et al., REVERSAL OF FULMINANT-HEPATITIS-ASSOCIATED HYPOGLYCEMIA AT THE ANHEPATIC STAGE DURING LIVER-TRANSPLANTATION, Netherlands journal of medicine, 48(5), 1996, pp. 185-187
Hypoglycaemia is a known complication of fulminant hepatic failure. Ma
ssive destruction of liver tissue, along with hyperinsulinism and defe
ctive glucose storage in extrahepatic organs are some of the mechanism
s contributing to the hypoglycaemia. We describe here a case of revers
al of fulminant-hepatitis-associated hypoglycaemia at the anhepatic st
age of liver transplantation. It is suggested that non-insulin hypogly
caemic factors secreted by the damaged liver may be responsible for th
is complication.
