The density of the melts of the system KF-KBF4-K2TiF6 has been measure
d using the Archimedean method. On the basis of the obtained density d
ata the molar volume, the partial molar volume and the excess molar vo
lume of the melts were calculated, and the possible chemical interacti
ons of components have been considered. As significant chemical intera
ction between KBF4 and K2TiF6 the reaction KBF4(l) + K2TiF6(l) = K3TiF
7(l) + BF3(g) has been found. The originated compound K3TiF7 undergoes
a substantial thermal dissociation according to the scheme K3TiF7(l)
= K2TiF6(l) + KF(l). Both chemical reactions affect the chemical equil
ibrium of the melt and subsequently their ionic composition.
