X. Zhou et al., STUDY OF RESTACKED SINGLE MOLECULAR LAYER MOLYBDENUM-DISULFIDE WITH ORGANIC TETRACHLOROETHYLENE INCLUDED, Journal of physics and chemistry of solids, 57(6-8), 1996, pp. 1137-1140
The structure of restacked monomolecular layers of MoS2 with organic t
etrachloroethylene (TCE) included was studied using X-ray powder diffr
action and X-ray diffraction of thin films in reflection and transmiss
ion. It was found that the MoS2 host layers are turbostratically stack
ed, separated by a monolayer of TCE and that the MoS2 is strongly dist
orted, with the Mo in an octahedral coordination. It was also found th
at the MoS2/TCE films are highly oriented with more than 70% of the Mo
S2 basal planes being parallel within +/-2.5 degrees. Upon moderate he
ating in a vacuum environment, the TCE molecules can be removed from t
he system and orderly stacking of MoS2 layers is observed with the Mo
in the trigonal prism coordination. Optical absorption and electrical
resistance measurements were performed on the MoS2 TCE system. The res
ults support the conclusion drawn from the X-ray studies that the Mo i
n MoS2/TCE is in an octahedral coordination. A 15 K resistive transiti
on observed by other workers for MoS2/poly (ethylene-oxide) (PEO) is n
ot observed in the MoS2/TCE system.
