The electro-oxidation of indole, C8NH7, in LiClO4-acetonitrile solutio
n, leads to the formation of an electroactive polymer. This compound,
in the doped state, was characterized by PEELS, XPS and FTIR spectrosc
opies. The sites of polymerization do not involve the benzene ring, bu
t are rather on the 1 and 3 positions of the pyrrole ring. The most pr
obable structure of ClO4--doped polyindole is a regular alternance of
1,1-3,3 couplings.
