NUMERICAL STOCHASTIC METHODS IN STATISTICAL-MECHANICS

We review the numerical stochastic methods used in statistical mechani cs with emphasis on the Langevin and Monte Carlo methods. We point out the role of microscopic reversibility in setting up the stochastic dy namics associated to the methods. We also present a Monte Carlo method which allows the calculation of the ground state properties of quantu m spin systems.
