It is the purpose of the present paper to establish conservation laws
for time-independent and time-dependent thermoelasticity in two dimens
ions via the NA method. Due to the analogy between the mechanics of a
thermoelastic and a poroelastic medium, the results obtained can be ap
plied to studies of poroelasticity. The conservation laws derived here
should prove useful in studies of fracture and defects in a linear el
astic body under the influence of nonuniform temperature fields and in
a porous elastic solid whose pores are filled with a compressible vis
cous fluid In particular; a path-independent integral was derived whic
h represents the energy release rate accompanying crack growth.
