Mamillisphaeria dimorphospora (Melanommatales) is described from north
Queensland from wood submerged in freshwater. M. dimorphospora has al
so been collected in Brunei and Malaysia. Mamillisphaeria can be accom
modated in the Melanommataceae or the Massariaceae, but differs from p
reviously described genera in having dimorphic hyaline and brown-celle
d ascospores. A discussion of the occurrence and role of dimorphic asc
ospores is given.
