R. Bartralot et al., KAPOSIS VARICELLIFORM ERUPTION IN A PATIENT WITH HEALING 2ND DEGREE BURNS, Clinical and experimental dermatology, 21(2), 1996, pp. 127-130
A 15-year-old boy with Kaposi's varicelliform eruption complicating he
aling second degree burns is reported. Clinically, umbilicated vesicle
s and pustules evolving to extensive erosions appeared over previously
burned areas, sparing normal skin. Rapid diagnosis was made on the ba
sis of the presence of multinucleate giant cells in a Tzanck smear. Th
erapy with intravenous acyclovir was followed by complete epithelializ
ation without scarring. Previous cases of Kaposi's varicelliform erupt
ion in burned patients are reviewed.
