The dipole moment of NO(B (2) Pi) was determined for the first time by
high resolution laser-induced fluorescence molecular beam spectroscop
y. Specific values obtained areas follows: mu(upsilon' = 3) = 0.293(3)
D, mu(upsilon' = 4) = 0.276(9) D and mu(upsilon' = 5) = 0.261(7) D. A
n RKR analysis allowed the first two moments of the dipole moment func
tion to be derived. Quantum beats were observed for the f-parity Lambd
a-doublets and the partial resolution of the hyperfine structure allow
ed the hyperfine energy level ordering to be determined. Accurate mole
cular constants were also obtained for B(upsilon' = 4 and 5) levels.
