Abstract
A survey carried out during the Summer of 1995 provides details of the statistical techniques taught to undergraduates in biology, the perso nnel who teach this material, and the methods they use. There is a wid e diversity of approaches to this subject, which in part reflects the different nature of the biology syllabus taught at different tertiary institutes. In general, lecturers have difficulty interesting students in statistics, in some institutes provision of reaching is cursory, a nd many students appear to graduate without the statistical skills nec essary for academic research.
