R. Abrook et Jdb. Weyers, TEACHING OF STATISTICS TO UK UNDERGRADUATE BIOLOGY STUDENTS IN 1995, Journal of Biological Education, 30(4), 1996, pp. 281-288
A survey carried out during the Summer of 1995 provides details of the
statistical techniques taught to undergraduates in biology, the perso
nnel who teach this material, and the methods they use. There is a wid
e diversity of approaches to this subject, which in part reflects the
different nature of the biology syllabus taught at different tertiary
institutes. In general, lecturers have difficulty interesting students
in statistics, in some institutes provision of reaching is cursory, a
nd many students appear to graduate without the statistical skills nec
essary for academic research.
