Chromatography of an ethyl acetate extract of the fruits of Rollinia m
ucosa led to the isolation of two new gamma-lactone acetogenins, epomu
senins A and B, which are the first examples of the rare C-37-type ann
onaceous acetogenins having an epoxide and a double bond along the ali
phatic chain in place of the usual tetrahydrofuran moeity. The three k
nown acetogenins, rolliniastatin-1, rolliniastatin-2 and squamocin wer
e also isolated. The structures were established by means of one and t
wo dimensional NMR experiments.
