Abstract
We present a series of experiments on the motion of grain boundaries i n zinc during inward cadmium diffusion. Diffusion induced grain bounda ry migration is shown to occur in a hexagonal metal, for the first tim e. Using the cylindrical symmetry of the elastic constants in hexagona l crystals, we are able to investigate the applicability of the cohere ncy-strain model and the influence of grain boundary structure, indepe ndently.
