The magnetic properties of the tetragonal CeFeSi-type compounds PrRuSi
and PrRuGe have been investigated by susceptibility measurements and
neutron diffraction. They order antiferromagnetically below T-N=73 and
62 K respectively. Neutron diffraction experiments show that both com
pounds have the collinear antiferromagnetic structure which consists o
f ferromagnetic (001) Pr layers (with moments perpendicular to the lay
ers) antiferromagnetically coupled along the c-axis in the sequence +-
+ (mu(Pr) = 2.67(4) and 2.39(3) mu(B) for PrRuSi and PrRuGe respective
ly). The results are compared with those obtained on the isotype RTX (
R=rare earth; T=Fe Co Ru) silicides and germanides. Copyright (C) 1996
