A. Cochaux et al., USE OF AMINES IN ALKALINE PULPING - PREPA RATION OF CELLULOSIC PULPS WITH HIGH TEARING STRENGTH, Cellulose Chemistry and Technology, 29(3), 1995, pp. 339-360
Using amines as additives in alkaline pulping allows to improve delign
ification rate and tearing strength compared to kraft pulps. These res
ults can be explained first by the superbasic propeties of water-amine
solutions and secondly by the amine properties of solvation to the ca
rbohydrates of fibre cells. Solvation and swelling increase fibre flex
ibility and tearing strength of pulps and papers obtained by alkaline
pulping with amines.
