The kinetics of the reaction of C-60 and C-70 with benzoyl peroxide is
studied. The results show that the reaction is first order against fu
llerenes and the rate constants at 342.2 K, 348.2 K, 353.2 K and 358.2
K were calculated and they are in agreement with experimental results
. The rate constant of C-70 is greater than that of C-60 and this indi
cated that C-70 is more actived than C-60. The activation energies are
9.275 X 10(4) J/mol and 8.438 X 10(4) J/mol for C-60 and C-70 respect
ively.
