An improved procedure for the determination of Rn-222 and Ra-226 in se
awater developed for easier on-board operations is presented. Data on
the radioactive disequilibrium between the mentioned radionuclides as
directly determined in the field can be greatly helpful in the study o
f the gas-exchange processes at the air-sea interface, especially as f
ar as the Antarctic Ocean is concerned. The method employed has been p
reliminarly tested in laboratory on a set of seawater samples collecte
d in the Ross Sea and Ra-226 data collected are discussed and compared
to literature data.
