The electron density and the absorption coefficient of the laser induc
ed vapour/plasma as well as the geometry of the expanding plasma are i
nvestigated by the beam deflection. The electron density is examined i
n dependence on different parameters. The results obtained by beam def
lection are compared to those of optical emission spectroscopy. By com
paring both methods of measurement it can be claimed that a local ther
mal equilibrium (LTE) is present in the vapour/plasma.
