Er:YAG laser drilling of dental tissue has been investigated as the ty
pical optodynamic process. Optoacoustic signals were detected by micro
phone and analyzed within the frame of linear systems theory to monito
r laser induced microexplosions. Statistical distribution of the optod
ynamic efficiency was performed in terms of partial weights of optoaco
ustic response function. The results indicate that the laser spikes sh
orter than 2 mu s are more efficient in ablative mechanism.
