B-MCM-41 is a boron containing mesoporous material. It was synthesized
in the system SiO2/B2O3/H2O/template using micell like species of qua
rternary ammonium salts, N(CH3)(3)R(+)X(-), with different chain lengt
hs of R as templates. In the as synthesized material boron is tetrahed
rally coordinated, whereas in the calcined form boron partly changes t
he coordination to trigonal planar. B-MCM-41 possesses high porosities
with a relatively narrow pore size distribution. However, the order o
f the silicate framework is poor and shows only local order without pe
riodicity in the silicate framework structure.
