Coronary atherosclerosis is uncommon in patients with von Willebrand f
actor deficiency. Occurrence of acute myocardial infarction is even ra
rer in these patients. We report on a 69-year-old woman with a long-st
anding history of von Willebrand disease who presented with acute myoc
ardial infarction. Thrombolytic therapy with rtPA, heparin, and aspiri
n, followed by percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty and coro
nary stenting, was performed without significant bleeding or other com
plications. (C) 1998 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
