Water table level is an important feature in subterranean hydrology an
d is relatively easy to observe. Groundwater recharge is a cause of wa
ter table rise and the carrier of contaminants to groundwater. However
, groundwater recharge is an elusive quantity because accurate field m
easurements are difficult to obtain. A study of the relationship betwe
en groundwater recharge and water table rise is advantageous because i
t will allow the evaluation of groundwater recharge based on field-mea
sured water table rise. The equilibrium condition is defined as a cond
ition when the water energy in a region reaches a constant. A publishe
d record (Holmes and Colville, 1970) indicated that the water energy n
ear a water table approximated the equilibrium condition. An analytica
l relationship between groundwater recharge and water table rise is de
rived based on the equilibrium condition. The analytical relationship
was tested using measured water table levels during two storm events a
nd produced promising results. Keywords. Groundwater, Recharge, Water
table, Equilibrium condition.
