Sa. Saseendran et al., DISTRIBUTION OF MONSOON RAINFALL IN INDIA DURING EL-NINO ASSOCIATED DROUGHT SITUATIONS, Annals of Arid Zone, 35(1), 1996, pp. 9-16
The temporal and spatial variability of south west monsoon rainfall in
India during years of (i) drought associated with El Nino, (ii) droug
ht not associated with El Nine, and (iii) nondrought associated with E
l Nine during 1901-1990 were studied. The study revealed that August i
s the most dependable month for rainfall during drought years associat
ed with El Nine. During drought nor associated with El Nine, for most
of the sub-divisions, June is the most dependable month. During nondro
ught years, associated with El Nine, the monsoon was found to start sl
uggishly in June, but subsequently it picked up, in amount of rainfall
during July and August. Most of the sub-divisions received normal or
excess rainfall during these months. Rainfall scenario at individual s
ub-divisions can be derived from the results.
