Te. Harrison et al., ROSAT OBSERVATIONS OF GAMMA-RAY BURST ERROR BOXES .2. GRB910814 AND GRB920525, The Astronomical journal, 112(1), 1996, pp. 216-220
We present ROSAT PSPC observations of the southeastern quadrant of the
COMPTEL error box of GRB910814, and ROSAT HRI observations of the Int
er-Planetary Network (IPN) error box of GRB920525. The goal of these o
bservations was to search for a quiescent x-ray counterpart of these g
amma-ray bursts. The field of the x-ray observations for GRB980814 inc
luded 1.5 degrees of the IPN error annulus within the COMPTEL 2 sigma
error contour. Thirty-nine x-ray sources were detected within the 2 de
grees field of the PSPC observation. One of these sources is located w
ithin the IPN annulus, but this detection is consistent with the expec
ted background rate for faint x-ray sources. B and V CCD images of the
fields of the nine strongest x-ray sources were obtained to try to id
entify the optical counterparts of these sources. Likely candidates we
re identified for a number of these x-ray sources. In the field of GRB
920525, four x-ray sources were identified, one of which was bright. N
one of these sources, however, were located within the IPN error box.
