Caterpillars of the moth Aphomia sociella (L.) were collected from act
ive colonies of Dolichovespula arenaria (F.) and D. maculata (L.), the
first documented new world hosts for this nest inquiline. Caterpillar
s held indoors were successfully reared to adults. Emergences coincide
d with typical flight period ranges in nature, overlapping the early p
hases of vespine colony development.
