Abstract
A simple thermodynamical model of the sea ice-ocean system is put forw ard. This model is employed for studying seasonal variations in the Ar ctic basin and estimating its water exchange with the North Atlantic. A periodic solution obtained in the case when average monthly climatic values of characteristics of the Arctic atmosphere and water balance of the Arctic basin are preassigned reconstructs seasonal variations o f the ocean thermohaline structure and sea ice characteristics. The se nsitivity of simulated characteristics to variations in atmospheric ef fect, river run-off, and water exchange with the surrounding oceans is evaluated.
