In the quasi-geostrophic approximation, a numerical nonlinear model of
baroclinic circulation in a closed basin with a flat bottom is develo
ped. The difference-differential scheme of the model offers the comple
te approximation. On the basis of this approximation, a numerical expe
riment was performed to study the response to a wind forcing under con
ditions of the Black Sea. It is shown that, at the initial stage, the
adjustment of hydrophysical fields to boundary conditions occurs due t
o the barotropic and first baroclinic normal modes of the basin. Oscil
lations with periods of 43 and 83 days were observed in a quasi-period
ic state. The amplitude-phase characteristics of the oscillations are
analyzed.
