The 16PF is notable because of the comprehensiveness of its assessment
of the human temperament and because of the depth of the analysis it
provides. It has remained at the forefront of the field. It is one of
the most widely used personality questionnaires in the UK, both in the
field of occupational assessment and in other assessment areas as wel
l. This paper considers the application of the 16PF in British occupat
ional settings. This paper begins by exploring the reactions of Britis
h users to the most recent fifth edition. It then outlines how standar
ds of use of the 16PF are maintained and monitored in the UK. Finally,
the application of the instrument is described in three areas relevan
t to occupational usage: selection of new employees, development of ex
isting employees and career counselling.
