Abstract
A debate about the historiography of migrancy and urbanization on the Zambian Copperbelt has recently been published in the Journal of South ern African Studies, commencing with a two-part article by James Fergu son (Vols 16, 3 and 16, 4). This was followed by a response from Hugh Macmillan in Vol. 19, 4, and another paper by Ferguson in Vol. 20, 4. This reply by Macmillan argues that there is no definitive version of the historiography and that there are at least two ways of analysing t he processes of migrancy and urbanization which have occurred. A short bibliographical note from Ferguson on recent relevant literature foll ows.
