Analysis of load and current transients accompanying discontinuous tra
nsgranular stress corrosion cracking (T-SSC) are analyzed in light of
fractographic evidence, resulting in a model for T-SCC which involves
corrosion-enhanced cleavage. The model accounts for the crystallograph
y and microstructural features of the resulting fracture, the orientat
ion dependence of the fracture process, and the role of the electroche
mical/alloy environment.
