V. Keppens et C. Laermans, ULTRASONIC-ATTENUATION MEASUREMENTS IN NEUTRON-IRRADIATED QUARTZ - THE INFLUENCE OF HEAT-TREATMENT FOR A DOSE OF 4.7X10(19) N CM(2)/, Radiation effects and defects in solids, 137(1-4), 1995, pp. 1395-1398
Ultrasonic attenuation measurements are carried out for a quartz speci
men irradiated with 4.7 x 10(19) n/cm(2) and annealed at 700 degrees C
during 1 hour. This dose is interesting because it is situated in the
'threshold region'. The measurements are carried out as a function of
temperature (0.3-20 K) for different frequencies (80-300 MHz). The da
ta show a behaviour that is qualitatively similar to previous observat
ions for a much lower dose, and indicate a tendency to return to the c
rystalline state.
