A. Schramm et H. Wolf, EXPERIENCES WITH THE APPLICATION OF THE T OPICAL GLUCOCORTICOID POWDER FLUOCORTIN BUTYL FOR PATIENTS WITH ALLERGIC RHINITIS, Allergologie, 19(5), 1996, pp. 218-222
Efficacy and safety data of the topical glucocorticosteroid fluocortin
butyl (FCB) (Lenen) were recorded for 4,440 patients with seasonal (6
2.5%), perennial (25.7%) and other allergic rhinitis (11.7%). Adverse
events were documented for 2.2% of the patients, Apart from mild irrit
ations at the nose only known side effects of FCB were observed. Accor
ding to the doctor's assessment 93.8% of the patients with seasonal rh
initis became free of symptoms (42.5%) or improved (51.3%), and 87.8%
of the patients with perennial rhinitis (26.8% free of symptoms, 61% i
mproved). In accordance, the therapeutic effect was more frequently as
sessed as good by patients with seasonal rhinitis (83.8%) than by pati
ents with perennial rhinitis (75.6%). More patients who had exclusivel
y applied FCB became free of symptoms (42.5%) than patients with a con
comitant antiallergic medication (23.3%). The assessment of the therap
eutic effect was independent of the applied dose of FCB (2, 3 or 4 tim
es/day). This study for broad application has shown that FCB is effici
ent and well tolerated.
