On the basis of Czech and foreign research works dealing with the char acteristics of sexual behaviour in population, the authors present the most significant findings about the age at the first sexual intercour se, its broader social context, its course as well as its consequences for later patterns of sexual behaviour. They analyze the tendencies t hat were found, namely the decreasing age at coitarche, the increased use of contraceptives at the first intercourse, and bringing nearer th e double standards of male and female roles.
