Abstract
True competition will force each powerplant to be evaluated as an inde pendent enterprise-turning profits, not just turning shafts. In prepar ation, forward-thinking managers are implementing best practices in st affing, automation, predictive maintenance, and so on. But blindly fol lowing the trends and procuring state-of-the-art technology will not, by itself, assure you a place in the winner's circle.
