The hydriding kinetics of hydrogen storage materials in the two-phase
regions have been studied. It is believed that the hydriding process i
s best classified into three steps: dissolution of hydrogen into the a
lloy or its hydride; diffusion of hydrogen atoms through the alloy or
its hydride phase; and nucleation and growth of beta-hydride (hydride
depositing from supersaturated alpha-solid solution). Kinetics equatio
ns have been derived for the cases when one of the three steps is the
rate-determining step. Copyright (C) 1996 International Association fo
