Abstract
Tests have been carried out on the effects of ageing and fading of alp ha particle tracks in CR-39 of the type used in the NRPB area radon de tector. The tests showed that there were no significant effects over t hree months, the normal exposure period for the radon detectors. Howev er, ageing and fading of the CR-39 in air over longer periods resulted in reduced sensitivity.
