STOCHASTIC STRUCTURAL INTERFACE DEFECTS IN FIBER COMPOSITES

In this paper the new idea of homogenization of stochastic interface s tructural defects in the matrix of a fiber composite, recently propose d by the first author, is extended to the contact zones of both compon ents. The physical mechanism of the occurrence of interface defects is described and different versions of location of these defects on fibe r-matrix boundary are tested using the stochastic finite element metho d (SFEM). Two first moments of the displacement random fields are comp uted and a new SFEM formulation fdr such problems is proposed. Copyrig ht (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd.
