Abstract
We have prepared CoxNi1-x/Au multilayers and studied their magnetic an d magneto-optical properties. The surface anisotropy (K-s) for Ni/Au i s negative but it becomes positive with the addition of Co and increas es linearly with Co concentration. For x = 0.7 the perpendicular loops are rectangular when the magnetic layer is 6 Angstrom thick.
