This is a brief report on a special project. Data from experiments and
simulations were collected and distributed to over 100 turbulence mod
elers and other participants in 16 different countries. The modelers m
ailed the results of their ''predictions'' back to the organizers for
distribution to ail the participants for comment. The data covered mos
t types of turbulent flow, compressible and incompressible, but the em
phasis was on complex (strongly nonequilibrium) flows. No model was ca
pable of predicting the full range of flows to good engineering accura
cy, but stress-transport models seemed to perform best. The exchange o
f views and results alone has been of real benefit to modelers.
