The mechanical properties of materials are discussed for different con
figurations of the obstacles (in series or in parallel), different dis
location-obstacle regimes (exhaustion or crossing) and different obsta
cle strengths (one type of obstacle or a spectrum of obstacles of diff
erent strengths). The models proposed for Ni3Al are compared in what c
oncerns the yield stress anomaly and the partial reversibility of the
flow stress upon a decrease of the temperature.
