Abstract
We discuss the solution of the first order Fokker-Planck equation desc ribing the collisional slowing down of fast ions in magnetically confi ned plasmas. A statistical method to predict the evolution across the branch points of the characteristic curves is proposed. A significant transport of fast ion orbits in the direction of the magnetic axis is discovered.
