ON THE CORRELATION BETWEEN TROPOPAUSE PRESSURE AND OZONE ABOVE CENTRAL-EUROPE

For a period of twenty years the correlation between local readings of total ozone collected above Hohenpeissenberg are correlated with loca l measurements of the tropopause pressure above Munich. Regionally ave raged values of ozone columns provided by TOMS are additionally correl ated with tropopause pressure derived from ECMWF analyses. The correla tion coefficient between total ozone and tropopause pressure results t o 0.48 +/- 0.02 (local data) and 0.55 +/- 0.02 (regional mean values). A vertical displacement of the tropopause by one kilometre is associa ted with an ozone anomaly of 13 Dobson units.
